Thank You for the Night

"Thank you for the night, dear Lord,
For the rest and the peace
That displaces the panic and frustration of the day,
And the time to mend life's ragged edges
And to refocus the heart and mind
On those things that are truly important.

And thank you for your word of forgiveness,
For the assurance of your love,
And the knowledge that as I rest my weary body,
I rest my spirit in your tender care.

Thank you, God,
That even before I lapse into unconsciousness,
I can discover anew my identity as your child,
And should I awaken to the morrow,
Will begin a new day of challenge and opportunity
As your child and your servant.

Thank you, Lord. "
